The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA) released its annual Global Status of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops, charting significant adoption milestones in Africa, Latin America, and Asia and growth in approvals of biotech crops globally. 13.3 million farmers in 25 countries grew biotech crops on 125 million hectares in 2008, marking a 9.4% increase over global biotech crop acreage in 2007. 3 countries grew biotech crops for the first time in 2008: Burkina Faso, Egypt and Bolivia.
