Amidst the many claims made on the benefits and risks of Genetically Engineered (GE) crops worldwide, various meta-analysis of the related literature have been done in the recent times. The present paper attempts to reflect on one such meta-analysis-based report published by the US National Academies of Sciences (NAS) recently. This report includes the observations and recommendations of the Committee charged for preparing this report on the prospects of genetic engineering and regulation of current and future GE crops. The summary of the observations made by the Report on themes such as agronomic and environmental effects; human health effects and social and economic effects are presented in this paper along with the responses, relevance and implications of the report.
