About the Database of the Safety and Benefits of Biotechnology

The database contains papers about the impact, safety and benefits of agricultural biotechnology.

The database has been created primarily for use by regulators and policy makers seeking proactive evidence and scientific corroboration of the impact of biotechnology. It will also be useful for communicators wishing to source facts and figures from scientific reference papers and anyone wishing to research the impact of biotechnology and access supporting information.

All the papers have either been published in peer-reviewed journals or have been prepared by organisations that have summarised peer-reviewed studies. Each paper has been scrutinised to ensure the authors are held in good standing and that appropriate scientific methods have been used. Some additional supporting references have ben included in the database when it was thought these may provide further details beyond the focus of biotechnology benefits.

Papers are organised primarily by the different categories of impact of biotechnology, with links on the left column to each impact category. Clicking on the link provides a summary and descripion of the impact and a list of papers in the database that relate to the relevant impact category.

Links on the navigation bar at the top of the page provides further options. A list of overview or summary papers can be selected which covers multiple impact areas, crops, countries and traits etc. Alternatively a link to a list of all papers within the database can be selected from the navigation bar which includes the option to specify further search parameters and filters to facilitate finding papers of interest. This option is interactive with the seach results updating as soon as a parameter is changed.

The list of studies is being continuously added to and updated, and your suggestions for the inclusion of additional studies are welcome via this form.
